Job Description:  DESCRIPTION & REQUIREMENTS:

Position Overview:

The Group Director, Sports is responsible for leading the strategic utilization of the Coca-Cola North America (CCNA) Sports assets (e.g. League, Coaches, Teams, athletes, and other related properties) in order to extract maximum value for The Company through advertising, retail and experiential activation.  Leads a lean staff of Directors and other Senior Marketing Manager as well as support agencies through the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of national plans and tools to ensure that utilization of the asset deliver on brand objectives and generates a return on Company investments.  The position requires regular interaction with senior management, Brand Teams, Consumer Promotions, Public Relations, Licensing and Region Marketing Managers to understand national needs for the system and to support local initiatives.  The position also requires relationship management with the league’s senior management, Amateur Athletes, and as necessary other Company Marketing Assets/Strategic Alliance partners.  The Group Director will also have sports portfolio accountability in leading research projects with Knowledge and Insights across the sports assets nationally and locally.  Plus lead the Business Planning process for the sports properties under the direction of the SVP of Integrated Marketing.

Function Specific Activities:

Lead the development, approval, communication and stewardship of core
brand policies in order to ensure integrity at the local level.


Develop and communicate written briefs for use by agencies or
suppliers (e.g., creative, advertising, packaging, product development,
media, consumer promotions, merchandising, licensed or specialty
merchandise, etc.) to direct their work activities in order to generate
concepts for effective execution of marketing programs and objectives
(e.g., drive trail, increase loyalty).


Review items for approval (e.g., merchandise, packaging, marketing
programs, e-commerce, point-of-sale, advertising, etc.) by using
brand/legal/creative/quality assurance guidelines in order to enhance
the brand image, protect The Company and comply with contractual
obligations to third parties (e.g., licensors, rights-holders).


Direct Research and Development to develop new products or product
improvements in order to meet marketing objectives (e.g., extending
usage, bringing in new users, etc.) by writing and gaining approval to
PDR/PAR (Product Development Request/Product Authorization Request),
and organizing kickoff and project meetings.


Write short and/or long-term business/brand plans identifying business
objectives, strategies, key initiatives and performance measurements by
using insights collected from situation assessment, marketplace
information, etc. in order to support division/region portfolio and
brand growth targets.


Lead the development of business cases, including ROI assessments, to
make decisions on go/no go for major brand initiatives (programming, new
products, new packaging, etc) by working cross-functionally and with
bottling system.


Support brand positioning and related objectives (e.g., building brand
awareness, improving brand recall scores) by composing and
incorporating advertising goals into the brand plan in order to ensure
concept alignment with brand positioning.


Ensure all media objectives will be met within the allocated budget by
reviewing and approving media plan prior to brand plan completion in
order to accomplish media goals within budget constraints.


Write and present consumer promotion plan (e.g., objectives,
strategies, tactics) to Brand Management using consumer promotion
analyses, industry trends and business experience in order to support
marketing objectives.


Develop an annual plan to address consumer and marketplace information
needs for Business Team and Global Innovation using information
gathered during briefing meetings with Business Team/Unit Marketing
managers in order to have research initiatives aligned with the needs
of the business.

Education:  Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
Related Work Experience:  At least 9 years

Technical Skills:

Brand Marketing Development: Ability to lead the development,
communication and stewardship of global brand positioning,
architectures and policies/guidelines.


Brand Marketing Strategy: Knowledge of information used to define
brand strategic corridors and develop appropriate business solutions
for local market activation.


Marketing Operating Strategies: Knowledge of and ability to apply
basic marketing operating strategies (e.g., media planning, pricing
strategies, trade/consumer promotions) used in the execution of
marketing plans.


Brand/System Contribution: Knowledge of the concepts of brand and
system contribution and gross profit. This includes an understanding of
the drives that influence each and how to apply the concepts when
preparing business plans and rolling estimates, evaluating projects and
making day-to-day decisions.


Marketing Innovation: Ability to identify and develop innovative ideas
(e.g., product, packaging, merchandise, activations) in order to create
a proprietary advantage for The Company.


Marketing Research Resources: Knowledge of industry (e.g., consumer,
customer, fashion) research resources (e.g., attitude and usage,
Nielsen, trend resources) and their application.


Syndicated Sources: Knowledge of syndicated sources (e.g., AC Nielsen,
IRI, CCT+, Home Scan) used in the analysis of trended consumer and
volume dynamics.
