Job Description: 
Rio Tinto Minerals (RTM), part of the Rio Tinto group, has temporary replacement openings for Machinists Journeymen based in Boron, California. These positions are located in the on-site at our Boron Operations in the Mechanical Department.



These openings exist due to a lockout or labor disturbance that occurred on January 31, 2010.

Mr. Kim Moulton, Director of Human Resources, U.S. Borax, Inc., is repsonsible for these openings.



The Mechanical Department provides construction, installation, relocation, repair and preventive maintenance on machinery, equipment and facilities for the optimum operating efficiency of the Boron Plant. The Machinist Journeyman fabricates and repairs metal components. Machinist Journeymen are required to perform other duties as directed by the Department Supervisor.


The successful candidate will be:

- Able to read blueprints and drawings.

- Must be skilled in the use of measuring devices and the safe operation of all tools used

by a Machinist in manufacturing.

- Willing to continue to develop knowledge and skills though training to become proficient

in operating computerized equipment utilized in the Maintenance industry.

- Use of machining tools typically used in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications:


- Must be 18 years of age or older


- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED required


- Must have at least 4 years experience as a Machinist in a manufacturing environment


- Must meet accepted standards for skilled craft work and be capable of working to within


a .0001 tolerance level.


- Demonstrate a safety conscious approach to work


- Must have one to two years experience in metal fabrication, arc welding, oxygen


and acetylene welding


- Have an excellent work history including attendance, safety, & initiative


- Are dependable & cooperative team player


- Are physically capable of performing manual labor requiring bending, climbing stairs,


and strength for lifting, pushing & pulling of various loads


- Work all shifts on both a rotating & straight shift basis. Must work overtime, weekends


& holidays as scheduled.


- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

$24.90 is the hourly wage for this position.
