Job Description: 
Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Production
and Warehouse Manager provides leadership and direction to the production, maintenance and warehouse / shipping departments in the areas of responsibility including: administration, production, processing, packaging, scheduling, sanitation, quality, purchasing, safety and environmental, maintenance, shipping, receiving, managing employees. This position directly supervises production, maintenance and cooler employees to maximize productivity of assigned shifts and areas.
This includes training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, coordinating weekly Continuous Improvement (CI) meetings, addressing product and employee complaints, and resolving problems.
This person carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies, OSHA regulations and applicable laws while following all established CI processes and the Management Operating Structure (MOS).
He/she works with the Plant Manager as the liaison between the Plant and other departments including Sales, Administration, Distribution, Corporate, and State and Federal Regulatory Personnel. Duties include:
  • Plans, directs and coordinates the activities of the manufacturing facility and shipping department to ensure customer orders are received, scheduled, produced, and loaded at the lowest possible cost to meet the customer's requirements while maintaining established safety and quality standards in a safe and sanitary work environment that is in compliance with the Company's policies, and all State and Federal regulations.
  • Analyzes plant operations and key metrics to ensure that the facility maintains high quality and safety standards to continue to maintain our leadership position in the industry.
  • Is responsible for expense management and control, including shrink, labor and overhead costs utilizing Continuous Improvement techniques and a Management Operating Structure (MOS).
  • Works to improve employee safety, production quality, equipment reliability, and overall equipment effectiveness utilizing Continuous Improvement techniques and a Management Operating Structure (MOS).
  • Manages both the maintenance and capital projects for the site.
  • Utilizes mechanical and electrical expertise to maintain production systems, utilities, buildings and grounds.
  • Utilizes a computerized maintenance management system to optimize asset utilization through scheduled preventative maintenance.
  • Implements corrective actions identified by key maintenance performance indicators as a means to create overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Remains current with latest and emerging industry regulations and codes relative to mechanical and electrical systems design and operation.
  • Ensures corporate policies and standards are followed in both capital project implementation as well as daily maintenance.
  • Ensures that Standard Operating Procedures are developed and maintained for all aspects of the business.
  • Coordinates the load out schedule with in-house distribution and outside contractors to ensure the timely and accurate load out and receiving of all products.
  • Monitors, on a daily basis, the inventory and codes of all products in the cooler to ensure proper rotation and traceability of all items.
  • Ensures all transactions are recorded timely and accurately, to reflect a correct inventory position at any time.
    These include shipments, donations, product loss and damage.
  • Monitors and manages all aspects of employee performance.
  • Ensures full compliance with all quality assurance standards, especially good housekeeping and overall cleanliness of products and work areas.
  • Monitors and strives to achieve the successful attainment of the Sales to Service Metrics targeted.
  • Contains and/or reduces cost and drives productivity within the department.
  • Cooperates in a cross-functional manner as a change agent with all departments within the Company.
  • Engages in the typical responsibilities of a manager requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and delegating.
  • Provides management of employees directly or through supervisors to ensure effective selection, retention, development, disciplinary action and performance management.
    If a collective bargaining agreement exists, may participate in negotiations, grievances or other contract related activities and discussions.
  • Leads by example with the Dean Foods Code of Ethics.
    This includes following Company policies, standards and specifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Scheduled Workdays & Hours:
This management position would work overlapping hours with the Plant Manager; projected hours are 1:00 AM - 9:00 AM.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Internal Candidates: A minimum of 5 years hands-on plant experience in the dairy plant or food industry operations, with a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Union, Safety, and Workers Compensation experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer-based applications.
  • Experience leading and following Safety/Security Policies and Procedures.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs; ability to lead others through change.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Skill in organization and prioritization, and attention to detail.
  • Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
  • Ability to select, coach, develop, engage, and retain a team of employees.
