Job Description: 

An excellent career opportunity is currently available for a Strategic Marketing Specialist in UOP's CA&S (Catalysts, Adsorbents & Specialties) business based in Des Plaines IL or remotely. This position will support UOP’s Absorbents’ emerging water treatment business. The Strategic Marketing Specialist is responsible for leading global field based sales and marketing related activities. He/she will work with the marketing team to identify, document and execute a growth strategy for water treatment. This growth strategy will be developed through expert use of Voice of the Customer discussions to discern customer segments, economics (willingness to pay and cost to serve), competitive dynamics, choosing target segments, development of offerings for each target segment, and development of go-to-market approaches including channel, positioning, pricing and promotion. The successful candidate will work closely with the field sales organization, key distributors, internal executives, and key business partners to maximize the growth, development and return on investment of the organization’s product portfolio today and in the future. He/She will oversee business/market intelligence development, syndicated data, sales analysis and corresponding presentations so as to identify and capitalize on the most advantageous business opportunities.

Key Job Responsibilities:



  • Design/conduct Voice-of-the-Customer(VOC); understand segmentation; understand value elements critical to customers; calculate value equations; target value propositions to customer segments and be able to apply it to applications in a wide variety of water markets.

  • Attend conferences where new, application specific water treatment customers are likely to be in attendance. Establish relationships with companies where UOP has no existing relationship. Make presentations at selected conferences.

  • Integrate inputs to develop distinctive product plans with outstanding financial outcomes; Be competent in microeconomics, finance, VOC, research and analysis and basic marketing toolkit [market definition and sizing, segmentation, value management, targeting and positioning, pricing].

  • Learn and be able to implement UOP and Honeywell standard Sales Tools and Processes; assists in the development of policies, materials, and tools to support the Sales Force and channel members.

  • Frequently contributes information and ideas to the strategy formulation process and to the production of marketing plans and budgets.

  • Emerging understanding of both value pricing and transactional pricing models. Conducts analytics to support pricing policy.

  • Design and execute impactful market research studies; drive to conclusions and actionable recommendations for the business; supports and sometimes demonstrates leadership in the information gathering process; provides analysis support to “so whats” and works through the implications of analysis; clearly communicates the findings and implications.

  • Supports strategic planning process information gathering; Contributes information to marketing plans on their own accord.


Basic Qualifications:
• Technical or analytical discipline Bachelors degree
• 3 years of post- graduate experience in water treatment sales, marketing or technical service
Additional Qualifications:
• Post- graduate experience with products and processes used in industrial and / or municipal water treatment
• Demonstrated success in sales, business development, marketing and product management
• Experience planning, analyzing and implementing marketing strategy.
• Strong communication skills are required.
• Strategic marketing skills; understanding and experience with the ability to practically apply to their product line. Must link strategies to financial results.
• Experience/knowledge in power, environmental remediation, and/or produced water preferred.
• An MBA is desirable
