Job Description: 

The Honeywell South Bend, IN facility is the manufacturing center of excellence for aircraft wheels and brakes sending out approximately $400 million in production shipments/year and employing approximately 800 people.


The Aerospace Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) organization is responsible to partner with Engineering, Program Management and Operations to drive value engineering and new product development initiatives into Aerospace products and services focusing on product cost, manufacturability, and factory readiness. The AME organization currently has an opening for a Sr Engineer. This Engineer will have the following responsibilities:

Value Engineering (Pipeline Development & Execution Project Management)



  • Participate IPDS Phase 6 Cost Take Out (CTO) ideation and project development

    • Cost Take Out (CTO) workshops, Pipeline development activities
    • Detailed project planning

  • Manages the execution of VE projects (IPDS Phase 6)

    • Manage save and spend profiles to project expectations

  • Drive DTC (Design to Cost)
  • Develop UPC model and coordinate updates

    • BOM Analysis (actual, notional, or similar to)
    • Evaluation of designed parts
    • Conversion analysis
    • Develop CTO Roadmap(s)

  • Coordinate Engineering, Manufacturing, Sourcing, GS&I, Suppliers, etc. to generate ideas and execute on them

    • Coordinate / Facilitate CTO workshops
    • Project Manage the detailed BOM Analysis

  • Continuously monitor and communicate cost to the program team

    • Manage CTO Roadmaps and risk mitigate plans

Drive DFX (Manufacturing, Assembly, Test, Lean…)



  • Work with AME/NPD, Manufacturing Engineering, and Suppliers to design to capability

    • Identify concept design short-falls early
    • Identify producibility issues in concept baselines
    • Identify design improvement opportunities

  • Predict design for manufacturability, yield, test, and drive change utilizing the AME enabling tool suite (Yield, Complexity, and DFM prediction models)

    • Data driven approach to pin-point reasons for low yield
    • DFM or process capability driving yield short-fall
    • Guide detailed design layout decisions

  • Evaluate technical readiness for production (complexity…factory fit) through the discipline of the Manufacturing Readiness Level tools

Program Manage the Introduction to Production



  • Manages multiple development projects planning through product center execution and introduction to production (IPDS Phase 3-5)

    • Manage and maintain cost and manufacturability activities and artifacts
    • Represent ISC during phase exit reviews
    • Coordinates program planning and execution of ISC activities
    • Ensures execution of new product support from the master scheduling, planning, manufacturing engineering and other Operations functions

  • Serves as a linkage between Sourcing, Manufacturing, Engineering, Program Management, and Marketing. Is the technical liaison between ISC and Engineering

    • Drive IPDS adherence for all ISC related items in the Phase Exit Criteria Assessment (PECA) check sheets
    • Maintain required metrics and status presentations







Basic Qualifications:



  • BS Engineering or other relevant discipline
  • 5 years of Engineering, Program Management or Integrated Supply Chain experience, with experience in multiple areas a plus

Additional Qualifications:



  • Master's Degree preferred (MS in Engineering or MBA)
  • Excellent communications skills, including oral, written & presentation
  • Knowledge, skill and experience with wide range of manufacturing processes and products
  • Able to deal tactfully and confidently with internal, external customers and suppliers at all organizational levels
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing techniques and their impact on costs
  • Basic in project management skills with the ability to close initiatives on time and within budget
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills in a team environment with ability to influence across many functions in a matrix organization structure
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple project / programs with limited and shared resources
  • Green Belt, DFSS, or Black Belt certification. Demonstrated ability in using six sigma tools
  • Program Management Institute Professional Project Manager Certification preferred
  • Excellent computer skills including EXCEL, MS Project, and PowerPoint
