We are currently seeking an Embedded Firmware/Software Engineer in our Muncie, IN facility. Relocation is available for this position!



The Firmware/Software Engineer will support/lead electronics-based projects in a global team environment for use in industrial combustion applications. Project work will include mid-level software development of new concepts, prototype build/test and the ability to demonstrate ideas. Transitioning concepts to new product introductions will require one to fully articulate product specifications and the requirements to global design centers for detailed product design. Products can include valve actuators, brushless motor controls, user displays, burner management panels and devices that sense and monitor position, pressure and flow.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities:




  • Work in a global team environment to research, design and develop new product concepts or enhancements to existing products.

  • Work with analog, digital, and power circuits, including microcontroller products.

  • Develop new product requirements and specifications.

  • Develop PC-based test software; develop mid- to low-level embedded applications.

  • Develop products that are intended to reliably operate in harsh electrical environments and over a wide temperature range.

  • Meet CSA, UL, FM and CE requirements.

  • Design and support the mechanical development of electronic packages and enclosures.

  • Work with agencies to certify products for CSA, UL, CE and hazardous location requirements.

  • Conduct training of Maxon staff and customers on new product introductions.

  • Assist sales staff with providing technical assistance and application support to Maxon customers.

  • Initiate technical sessions to review unresolved technical/performance issues and to plan a course of action.

  • Support product after release of sale.


Basic Qualifications:




  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required.

  • 5 years professional experience developing real-time embedded firmware.

Preferred Qualifications:




  • Previous work experience in developing safe real time embedded firmware/software for medical devices, automotive electronics such as safety restraint systems (air bag controllers, passive occupant detection controllers), Anti-lock breaking systems, or engine control systems with an emphasis on F/A ratio control is desired.

  • Experience involving the coordination of electrical/electronic designs from concept to product introduction.

  • Ability to work in a cross-functional environment.

  • Self-starter.

  • Experience with microprocessor controlled industrial networked products is highly desirable.

  • Any experience with safety instrumented systems or knowledge of IEC 61508, IEC 61511, or IEC 60730, UL1998 is also a plus.

  • Design, technical analysis and problem solving skills.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to write product specifications.
