The Principal Aerodynamics Engineer is part of the Compressor or Turbine Component Teams within the Wheels and Aerodynamics COE. (Center of Excellence). This enginner will be leading projects related to the development of cutting edge aerodynamic design solutions with using state of the art analytical and experimental tools. The engineer will also act as a technical expert representing Honeywell in front of key customers.



Principal responsibilities:


  • Design, Test and Qualify next generation of compressor or turbine aerodynamics

  • Develop detailed problem statements with Aerodynamics Component Manager, Performance Engineering team, and Product Line team to layout a design solution plan, and execute the plan.

  • Compile design experience across multiple projects, feeding into aerodynamic design standards. Coordinate with multiple component engineers to ensure standards reflect the full range of experience.

  • Apply 6-sigma tools to design a robust product. Interact with the multiple cross-functional teams for new components and concepts integration into the whole turbocharger.

  • Support resolution of technical problem and performance issues at the customer. Interface with internal and External Customers to provide aero support.

  • Team with aero sciences group to identify and deliver process improvements to drive industry leading delivery of new aero solutions.

  • Initiate and lead broader scopes, cross-Wheels and Aerodynamics and cross-SBU initiatives to drive productivity, knowledge transfer and innovation.

  • Contribute significantly to the professional development of the global aerodynamic teams through training and mentorship.


Internal Communication Coordination


  • Work with Product Line teams and Program Managers to keep internal customers updated on project status.


Basic Qualifications


  • Minimum Masters degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, with focus on Turbomachinery; PhD in the field of radial turbomachinery design is a plus

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in design of compressor and/or turbine stages


Knowledge and Skills


  • Testing and analysis skills, including advanced analysis tools like CFD, FEA, Matlab

  • Strong drive to deliver, ability to multitask and to work in multi-cultural and cross-functional teams, and a focus on continuous improvement

  • Ability to grasp deep technical issues quickly and relate multiple observations to each other

  • Outstanding communication skills

  • Proficient in the English language

  • Good skills in MS-Office-applications

  • Self-motivated, consistently takes the initiative to get things done

  • Conscientious, structured way of working
