Job Description: 
There is an immediate opening for an Engineering Technician in the Process Information & Control (PIC) Group within UOP’s Process Technology & Equipment business unit located in Des Plaines, IL. UOP's Process Information & Control Group (PIC) is a dedicated center focused on supplying customized control systems to deliver optimal performance for UOP process units. The Engineering Technician will support the business in the engineering, production and testing of PLC Control Systems. The PIC department is accountable for the production and development of custom control systems based on PLCs and PCs that are sold to external customers. PIC’s control systems have components of regulatory and batch control, advanced process control, expert systems, DCS Interfacing, training simulators.

Position responsibilities:


  • SAP entry of BOMs and requisitions for the manufacture of PSA and PIC control systems.

  • Review of manufacturing docs and shop floor interface.

  • Assist engineers with installed base of PIC systems; including modifying documentation and obtaining parts to meet customer needs.

  • Create and modify AutoCAD drawings as needed for PSA and PIC control systems.

  • Staging and safe power up of the control panel.

  • Delivery Preparation of control systems.

  • Creation of Field Simulator Hookup documents. Occasional connection and removal of the field simulator.

Additional responsibilities to performed include:


  • Performing point to point checks. This task involves comparing the wiring drawings to the constructed panel, as well as requires the ability to read wiring schematics and be familiar with electronic equipment.

  • Assisting Manufacturing in the assembly of control systems as scheduling dictates.

  • Miscellaneous Clerical duties needed throughout the department.


Basic Candidate Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or GED, together with 4 years work experience supporting the design, fabrication and troubleshooting of PLC based control systems solutions is required.

OR


  • An Associates of Science degree in an engineering or technical discipline, together with 2 years work experience supporting the design, fabrication and troubleshooting of PLC based control systems solutions is required.

Additional Candidate Qualifications:



  • 2 years experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and AutoCAD is desired.

  • Familiar with electronic components, wiring, and troubleshooting.

  • Familiar with mechanical layout of control panels is desired.

  • Familiarity with SAP desired.

  • Good organizational skills and problem solving skill are a must.

  • Ability to listen well and understand content of verbal communications.

  • Ability to produce work that is consistent, correct, timely, and complete.
