Honeywell Performance Materials and Technologies (PMT) is a global leader in providing customers with high-performance specialty materials, including fluorine products; specialty films and additives; advanced fibers and composites; intermediates; specialty chemicals; electronic materials and chemicals; and technologies and materials for petroleum refining.


Honeywell PMT needs a Senior Project Manager, Major Projects for their Baton Rouge, LA location. The selected Project Manager will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic work environment with capital intensive projects.


Principal Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Manage the execution of capital projects through their entire life cycles; including prioritization, scoping, design, construction, and start up; using recognized engineering and project management tools in the areas of estimating, scheduling, design, procurement, and construction.
  • Manage portfolio of mid to large size projects at a Performance Materials and Technologies site or on a temporary assignment at locations throughout the world.
  • Monitor execution of outside design/construct contractors to identify performance with regards to quality of work, cost and schedule. Accountable for the on-time, on-budget completion of projects per agreed upon scopes.
  • This role will need to have prior experience managing projects in the $5-$100M range.


Key Success Factors: (Specific expectations during next 6 – 18 months)



  • Independently manages assigned capital program. Optimizes project cost and schedule to meet facility priorities and Strategic Business Enterprise (SBE) capital objectives with key emphasis on maximizing the effectiveness of Fluorine Products’ investments.
  • Thoroughly understands and uses the Design for Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing tools.
  • Mentors and supervises less experienced engineers. Ensures best practices such as Capital Project Management Process (CPMP), PMT Engineering Small Project Management Process, engineering procedures, standards, and practices, are continuously improved and standardized upon. Develops and deploys new departmental procedures and standards.
  • Demonstrates proficiency and compliance with CPMP and other best practices and company work processes.
  • Demonstrates the ability to form and lead teams in the resolution of problems and the application of sustained solutions.
  • Consistently meets or exceeds the PMT Engineering objectives as outlined in annual departmental goal trees.
Basic Qualifications:


  • BS in Engineering required.
  • 10 years of experience in project management in a manufacturing environment within a similar industry required.

Additional Qualifications:


  • BS in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of chemical plant operations and processes. Requires constant interfacing with plant personnel.
  • Knowledge of fluorocarbons, nylon, or Caprolactam manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of process controls and instrumentation.
  • Formal training and certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • Technical Excellence - Understands engineering and personnel management principles. Strong familiarity with specific Project Management techniques and practices. Familiar with and effectively applies Honeywell's CPMP in daily work activities.
  • Experienced in the use of SAP, Microsoft Project, Excel, and internal estimating tools.
  • Intuitive problem solver.
  • Directs mechanical and Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) design initiatives for assigned area of support.
  • Communication - Displays excellent skills in both written and oral communication.
  • Can track the earned value of work performed, performance against budget and schedule, and report progress to customers accurately and effectively.
  • Understands and communicates project engineering performance measurements.
  • Interpersonal - Portrays excellent team leadership skills. Effective in working with and learning from personnel in various roles and from diverse backgrounds; including engineers, designers, drafters, plant leadership, union and non-union craftspeople, accountants, suppliers, and construction contractors.
