Honeywell Aerospace is a leading global provider of integrated avionics, engines, systems and service solutions for aircraft manufacturers, airlines, business and general aviation, military, space and airport operations. Aerospace's Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) organization has an opening for an Engineering Manager.


The Product Engineering Manager is responsible for the output and results of the Product and Process Engineering Team which consists of 20 Product Engineers. He/she will be responsible for product integrity, manufacturing output and continuous improvements working with factory Operations, Demand Planning, Engineering, Operations AME and Materials Management. This role will drive the site product improvement initiatives and improvement to the technical capability of over 20 Product Engineers. This position reports to the AME Engineering Director. Additional responsibilities for the selected candidate will include:


  • Responsible to identify and analyze product opportunities / issues. Plan, deploy, monitor and control site-level improvement initiatives to drive product and process improvements. Support Customer and Supplier communication to ensure and improve Product Quality and delivery. Lead the deployment and management of the Entanglement improvement processes.

  • Coordinate activities with support functions such as sourcing, HR, finance, HS&E, etc. Ensuring resource availability as required, proactively integrate functional interaction such as supplier quality assurance, transitions, material productivity, cost reductions. Serve as a barrier-buster as needed to mitigate risk. Support NPI Engineers. Utilizes Six Sigma Plus, Design for Manufacturing (DFM) tools to drive process improvement. Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Honeywell Operating Systems (HOS). Ensure technical compliance with HS&E, OSHA regulations and requirements.

  • Lead/responsible for overall improvement of unit cost management including Cost Savings, Quality Measures, Product Cost, Productivity, Escapes and First Pass Yields.

  • Demonstrate people management skills including talent development, coaching and developing high performance teams, communication, knowledge transfer and leadership skills. Ability to influence and provide visionary leadership, and provide project management skills with the ability to close initiatives on time and within budget.

  • Lead the reduction in quality escapes Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) and Materials Review Board (MRB) utilization. Participates with the New Product Development (NPD) Engineers and the Integrated Product Delivery and Support (IPDS) process (Phase 1-5) for product transition into manufacturing including supporting the sign-off approval process. Responsible for Phase 6 programs including Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) gap closure plans.

  • Ensure compliance to the Quality Management System (QMS) policies and procedures. Responsible to ensure that technical guidance is provided regarding the development, documentation and training of the step by step method sheets and work instructions. Own and maintain the strategy for enhanced tooling, manufacturing and factory test equipment. Support all internal and regulatory audits as required. Identify Root Cause Corrective Actions using processes such as Corrective Action Mistake-Proofing (CAMP). Interface to drive changes with Design Engineering regarding issues impacting product integrity and produciblility.

  • Ensures department projects and funding are in place and being driven to achieve departments Annual Operational Plan commitments. Responsible for analysis and identification of capital equipment needs to address gaps in capacity, including AR creation, process management and installation. Manage department burden and tooling budgets.

  • Manages the site-level cost reduction project budget and works with operations leaders to allocate funding as appropriate. Manages assigned resources and aligns census with project and factory needs.

  • Provide technical leadership to the site to ensure improvements or achievement of AOP in the following: On-Time Delivery, PPM, Escapes, Cycle-time Reduction, First Pass Yield, Turn Around Time, Inventory Reduction, COPQ and Safety.


Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or related technical field.

  • Requires 8 years of directly related experience in Product Engineering.

  • Requires 3 years previous management or leadership experience.


Additional Qualifications:


  • Technical Masters / MBA is a plus.

  • Solid understanding of manufacturing techniques and their impact on costs including continuous improvement. Able to make decisions to positively impact the operations.

  • Knowledge, skill and experience with wide range of manufacturing processes

  • Possesses financial acumen, understands business metrics and how to impact results

  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate project status and program needs across different levels of the organization and different operating environments

  • Strong people management skills including talent development, coaching and developing high performance team

  • Able to deal tactfully and confidently with internal, external customers and suppliers at all organizational levels

  • Demonstrates leadership skills, able to influence and provide visionary leadership

  • Proficient in project management skills with the ability to close initiatives on time and within budget

  • Results focused with successful record of accomplishments through skilled use of influence, persuasion, negotiation, and problem resolution

  • Self motivated, process driven

  • Green Belt, DFSS, Lean or Black Belt certification. Demonstrated ability in using six sigma tools

  • Program Management Institute Professional Project Manager Certification or ASQ CMQ/OE preferred

  • Excellent computer skills including EXCEL and MS Project

  • Knowledge of SAP and HOS
