RF Engineer V performs a variety of duties as a senior individual contributor engineer with strong technical skills. Acts independently under very general direction on complex system performance, RF design, transmission, equipment, and/or traffic engineering activities. Provides a highest level of technical guidance, leadership and training of less experienced engineers. May supervise a group or several project teams. May manage engineering teams. This particular position will focus on identification and realization of needed software upgrades to the AT&T RF design tool portfolio, addressing new enhancements such as geo-location based design and optimization or auto-import of RFDS database as-built detail.



The National RF Engineer V role provides RF design/optimization knowledge, process and tool leadership within the AT&T Mobility RF Engineering community. National RF will focus on developing initial LTE technology expertise and end-to-end LTE design process and tool guidance while continuing to refine current process and tool guidance for current UMTS design and optimization challenges -- power efficiency, pilot dominance, soft handoff area control, AxR performance, carrier layer control and hard handover boundary decisions, etc. The lead RF Engineer V candidate will be responsible for lead will focus on developing, refining, and delivering practical, hands-on expertise, guidance and support for initial LTE/UMTS design efforts, as well as mature UMTS network optimization challenges. This particular RF lead RF V candidate will take a leadership role with new GSM/UMTS/LTE design tool and process requirements required for future field RF team design/optimization success.


A successful candidate must be sufficiently versed in RF tool, process, and supporting data integrity details to rapidly assume responsibility for practical field guidance, LTE development and mentoring, and mature network proactive problem resolution. The tool portfolio enhancement focus will require experience with drafting tool requirements and interacting with preferred software vendors throughout the AT&T testing and implementation processes. A strong service first attitude and accountability to field customers will be prevalent in the successful lead RF Engineer V candidate.


The candidate will interface with the larger National RF team to lead change with regard to RF design/optimization process guidelines, tools, and data integrity inputs. The position will focus on the identification of new tool requirements and refinements, as well as provide perspective on future tool update priorities. The candidate will work closely with market RF process and tool customers, as well as HQ leadership -- providing key tactical perspective on active market optimization projects and obstacles to success.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Math or Sciences

  • 5-8 years of progressive successful development as an engineer.

  • Strong knowledge of and the ability to solve complex issues in the areas of:

    • RF engineering principles (RF communications theory, design principles, network optimization, propagation modeling and prediction, etc.) and vendor capability assessment,

    • Network architecture (3GPP Air interface, standards, technology and evolution, etc.),

    • Vendor capability assessment

    • Wireless engineering principles (cell site/tower design, attributes and specifications, and RAN design, spectrum/frequency planning, etc.),

    • Hardware (Cellsite equipment layout, network infrastructures),

    • Performance Management (System KPIs and metrics, etc.), and

    • Software (Parameter definition, etc).

    • Tools and Software (AIM, RF propagation, modeling, and planning tools, etc.)
