Job Description: 
Honeywell UOP, the #1 international supplier and technology licensor for the
petroleum refining, gas processing, petrochemical production and major
manufacturing plants is interviewing for a Senior Product Line Manager within the Refining & Petrochemical Group of UOP's CA&S (Catalysts, Adsorbents & Specialties) business unit located in Des Plaines, IL. The Sr. Product Line Manager will be the focal point and leader between manufacturing plants and sales. This is a unique and visible opportunity to support the strategic growth of UOP's Naphtha product portfolio.

The Product Line Manager is involved with a variety of business growth activities including strategic planning, price and cost management, product quality and specifications, business support for new product commercialization, global supply chain, market and competitor analysis.

Position Responsibilities:


  • Generate inputs required for the annual strategic plan for each product line and support the budget planning process
  • Monitor and analyze sales forecast and identify additional potential targets for sales.
  • Set and manage pricing based upon profitability targets & competitive situation.
  • Understand cost structure of products and identify opportunities to reduce costs. Initiate and over see cost reduction programs.
  • Analyze win-loss and other competitive information and feed into market plans.
  • Lead the Naphtha product line operating team to develop and implement market plans.
  • Generate business cases for development programs. Obtain Voice of the Customer. Lead the commercialization of new catalyst products during the Development, Scale-Up and Market-Launch phases.
  • Manage the overall product portfolio (life cycle) for assigned market segments.
  • Serve as business focal point with UOP’s Integrated Supply Chain group and assure that product is available to meet customer needs. Support the UOP Global Planning and the SIOP Process.
  • Lead the Product Specification Committees for the relevant market and insure quality requirements are satisfied for all product lines within the segment. Serve as the focal point for resolving product quality issues to the manufacturing sites.
  • Manage product line consistent with Honeywell product stewardship standards. Assure that proper diligence exists prior to commercialization of new products and any HS&E issues associated with existing products are addressed.
  • Work with sales account managers to develop, implement, and maintain long-term customer supply agreements. Oversee all customer supply agreements from a global basis.
  • Provide input to the patent portfolio management process.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Chemistry or Business is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years post graduate experience in the refining or chemical industry is required

Additional Qualifications:



  • Hands-on experience in a product line management, product technology, new product development or customer technical support role OR experience in reforming or isomeration catalyst technologies
  • Prior experience with material master management and business forecasting modules of SAP is a plus
  • Ability to think strategically and to scope tasks and set goals
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong business relationships
  • Ability to travel 10% annually to domestic and international sites

Qualifications and Desired Skills:
- Business Focus: Manage product line to strategically position UOP in the marketplace; balancing share and profitability via pricing guidelines, cost monitoring and product portfolio analysis. Prior demonstrated experience analyzing relevant markets to products under candidate’s responsibility, defining customer and value segmentation, developing marketing and pricing strategies and influencing/managing response to customer needs and market demand.

- Technical Excellence: Use comprehensive knowledge of product line including understanding of market/applications, manufacturing complexity of products, R&D, and competitive situation to direct UOP’s participation in the market consistent with strategic objectives.

- Communications skills: Adept at verbal and written communication with all levels of organization and external customers. Build relationships with Sales and sales support teams to effectively foster a consistent global approach to the market. Can resolve conflicts regarding pricing and product line issues in a manner that maximizes UOP’s objectives. Communicate product and market strategies effectively to other internal business entities so that objectives are well understood. Provide focal point amongst manufacturing plant, product, and sales force, ensuring on-time and on-spec production.

- Task and project management: Ability to identify, prioritize and address issues affecting job responsibilities autonomously. Ability to manage a wide variety of activities at a rapid pace. Sound decision making. Ability to drive tasks and projects to completion.

Teamwork - The ability to work with the CA&S sales, sales support, customer order management, service, development, technology and management teams, as well as our Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) for the successful delivery of product to the customer.

Prior experience with product line management, along with material master management and business forecasting modules of SAP a plus.

- Education/Experience: Bachelors degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Business or related discipline. 5 years directly related experience desired. Experience in related role a plus. MBA is a plus.
