Aerospace Engineering & Technology Platform Components has an immediate opening (located in South Bend, Indiana) for a Research & Development Staff Engineer/Program Manager. This is an exciting time for an experienced engineer with program management experience to join the Honeywell Advanced Technology team who has a solid background in aircraft brake and anti-oxidant development. This is a great position to showcase your skills in a highly visible role.



Engineers perform a full range of technical and project management work including assignments on Advanced Technology development programs from Technology Readiness Level 1 (concept development) through Technology Readiness Level 6 (advanced prototypes validated in a relevant system environment).


Responsibilities will include:



· Responsible and accountable for the carbon brake and anti-oxidant technology portfolio with a yearly budget exceeding $1M.


· Provide direction to 6-12 matrix team members, but no direct reports.


· Collaborate with Marketing and Product Managers in the development of product and technology roadmaps. Synchronize product strategies and technology readiness level (TRL) plans with aircraft OEM need dates.


· Develop technology project plans, including: charter, schedule, resource plan, cost estimate, risk management plan.


· Lead and execute projects to plan.


· Utilize the earned value management system in collaboration with Program Planning & Control personnel


· Lead cross-functional technology development teams in design, analysis, manufacturing and test activities


· Lead internal and external design reviews. Lead technical interchange meetings with customers.


· Interface with Procurement personnel and suppliers in the manufacture of prototype hardware


· Write development test plans and develop test procedures in collaboration with Lab engineers and technicians


· Oversee development testing and data analysis


· Document test results and write test reports


· Communicate progress, status, metrics, risks and plans to cross-functional team and management. Conduct monthly and quarterly program reviews.


· Cultivate funded engineering pursuit opportunities; Lead technology development proposals.


· Effectively manage intellectual property through the timely submittal of patent disclosures. Interface with patent portfolio managers and patent attorneys as needed.


Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Materials Engineering, or equivalent technical degree. Advanced degree a plus. PMP certification a plus.

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in the development of carbon brake and/or anti-oxidant products for commercial or military use

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in project or program management with budget responsibility in excess of $500K per year.

  • Due to export requirements, must be US Citizen or Permanent Resident

Additional Qualifications:



  • Advanced degree, PMP certification or SAP experience a plus

· Engineer/Scientist/Program Manager with ability to develop creative and innovative concepts for aerospace products and systems



  • Experience in new product development, qualification/certification and transition to production

  • Ability to translate customer requirements into system, product and component requirements

  • Ability to perform engineering trade studies

  • Relevant experience in proposal preparation and new business development is desirable

  • Ability to identify risks early and develop swift and effective corrective action plans

  • Proven track record of meeting technical, schedule and budget commitments while satisfying internal and external customers

  • Action-oriented, self-starting approach with ability to decompose overall goals into detailed action plans. Strong problem solving skills.

  • Self-motivated, empowered, team player

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, presentation, written and oral communication skills

  • Able to positively influence others, and resolve conflicts quickly and tactfully
