Northrop Grumman seeks an enthusiastic and qualified User Experience (UX) Designer to join our team. Our team supports Web application development for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA. The team seeks a well-rounded practitioner to participate in the development process to infuse user interface design principles into Web applications. This position requires a trained, experienced Usability Engineer, Human Factors Specialist, User Experience Specialist, or similar professional who is self-motivated with strong time management skills, excellent design skills, and polished presentation skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES • Assist in educating CDC divisions about benefits and value of user-centered design (UCD). • Plan UCD strategy for projects based on customer needs, budget, and priorities and integrate tasks into the overall development process. • Perform UCD tasks in collaboration with project team, customers, and users. • Participate in defining UX standards and templates for Web applications. • Balance and prioritize work across multiple projects.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications: REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS • Conduct user research through interviews, surveys, and Web analytics; define user goals and information needs; create task and system flows; develop scenarios and user personas. • Evaluate legacy applications by conducting baseline tests, heuristic evaluations, cognitive walkthroughs, and analyzing any existing user feedback. • Design clean, consistent Web page interfaces; design according to best practices using knowledge gained from user/product analysis; adhere to established CDC.gov design guidelines. • Produce wireframes and interactive prototypes to depict the user interface. • Outline recommended organization of content/information based on users’ mental model. • Design and conduct remote or in-person usability tests with interactive prototypes; identify issues and make recommendations for improvement. • Define UI Specifications for handoff to development team. • Produce client-ready deliverables and documentation based on templates. • Possess expertise in the applications in our design toolset (e.g., Axure, Visio, Fireworks). REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS • Communicate effectively with all levels of the contract and customer organizations; translate academic and technical terminology into common terms; have strong written and verbal communication skills. • Meet deadlines with both timeliness and quality; have strong organization and time management skills; balance and prioritize work across multiple projects. • Work independently and as part of a team. • Follow the Web Applications Team’s Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). • Commit to growing one’s skills by learning new technologies and UCD methods and share this knowledge with the team. • Learn and integrate new technologies and work processes. • Possess strong analytical skills permitting the understanding of complex concepts and production of complex specifications. Preferred Qualifications: • Understanding of the public health mission. • Experience working in a government contracting environment. • Understand and implement Section 508 accessibility requirements. Education and Experience: 9 Years with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with masters; 4 Years with PhD. • An advanced degree in HCI, Human Factors, or closely related discipline. • At least seven years of relevant on-the-job experience in creating usable Web sites (preferably Web applications).
