Job Description:  Modeling Specialist - Process Modeling and Optimization



An opening currently exists for a modeling specialist in UOP R&D's Process Modeling and Optimization group. This group is accountable for the development of reactor and process models, which are critical to the commercialization and ongoing support of UOP technology.



Key duties include:

• Develop and deliver reactor and process models which meet the needs of R&D, Engineering, and Sales Support

• Develop yield estimating software which meets the needs of Engineering and Sales Support

• Use understanding of kinetics, mass transfer and reaction engineering to make innovative contributions to UOP's technology development efforts

• Develop enhanced work processes and modeling techniques

• Perform other duties as assigned


Basic Candidate Qualifications:


  • PhD in Chemical Engineering with 2 years experience in modeling, process simulation, process development or reaction engineering of refining, petrochemicals and/or gas processing applications required.



  • In lieu of the PhD degree, a BS degree in Chemical Engineering, together with 4 years post graduate experience in modeling, process simulation, process development or reaction engineering of refining, petrochemicals and/or gas processing applications will be accepted.



Additional Qualifications:

· Willingness to travel less than 10% on an annual basis.

· Excellent communication skills to understand and document customer requirements and to effectively convey recommendations to other disciplines.

· Familiar with Six-Sigma tools and their application.

· Thorough understanding of chemical engineering fundamentals: kinetics, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena.

· Knowledge of UOP technologies: Refining/Petrochemicals/Gas Processing applications.

· Good mastery of process simulation and numerical methods to solve ODEs, (ordinary differential equations) PDEs (partial differential equations) and perform optimization.

· Good statistics background with emphasis in non-linear parameter estimation and experimental design.

· Excellent computer programming skills (C, C , Fortran, C#, Visual Basic).

· Ideal candidate is high-energy, creative, and a self-starter, who demonstrates technical excellence and is comfortable working in a team environment.
