Essential Duties and Responsibilities:




  • Recommend and implement solutions to provide overall leadership and oversight of all aspects of the Plant's Health, Safety, and Environmental Quality Program

  • Provide expertise during concept and design phases of manufacturing processes to ensure sound Health, Safety & Environmental control methodologies are integrated into design

  • Lead a cultural change that will facilitate the journey to Safety Excellence

  • Lead and provide expert hands-on technical involvement on issues, programs, and processes involving compliance with safety standards and policies and interpretation of local and national safety requirements, permits and regulations

  • Conduct routine audits to identify any deficiencies and develop appropriate corrective actions to assure the protection of the environment

  • Support accident investigations, determine root cause, develop corrective actions and conduct closure verification activities

  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable governmental rules, regulations, laws, and Corporate/SBU policies and procedures

  • Key responsibilities require knowledge of: Behavior Based Safety, Clean Air Act compliance, EPCRA reporting, air emissions inventory, wastewater monitoring, RCRA waste management, spill prevention plan, employee training, emergency response, Responsible Care, Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC), Storm water Pollution Prevention (SWPP), Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), RC/ISO 14001 management systems

  • Set HS&E (Health Safety & Environmental) Goals & Objectives and leads implementation

  • Serve as liaison with government regulatory agencies and consultants

  • Attend regular meetings with local community advisory panels and/or other groups to discuss HS&E issues

Supervisory Responsibilities:




  • Direction of 1 full time employee (reports to corporate safety)

  • Leader will delegate responsibilities and manage performance necessary to achieve full HSE goals / objectives



Basic Qualifications:



· Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Safety, or related technical field


· Minimum of five years experience working in a manufacturing environment


· Minimum 5 years experience within a Health, Safety & Environmental role with at least 3 years in an HSE Supervisory/Management role



Additional Qualifications:




  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to lead, motivate, and influence others to achieve objectives

  • Mature judgment, problem solving, and decision-making ability

  • Strong project management skills

  • Intimate knowledge of SSP Tools / requirements preferred

  • Strong Coaching and facilitation skills

  • Experience working in a Matrix environment a plus

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a changing environment to meet customer and business needs

  • Prefer 5 yrs. supervisory/management experience within a Health, Safety & Environmental role


Training Requirements:




  • Annual Regulatory Safety Training

  • Certified Apollo Root Cause Leader

  • Hazardous Material Specialist Level Training plus Incident

  • Command

  • Six Sigma Greenbelt Training / Certification
