Honeywell Aerospace is a leading global provider of integrated avionics, engines, systems and service solutions for aircraft manufacturers, airlines, business and general aviation, military, space and airport operations.
The Aerospace-Urbana facility has designed and manufactured aircraft lighting products for more than 70 years. The products supported by the Urbana facility include Interior, Exterior, and Electro-Mechanical Lighting, Cockpit Displays and Electronics, and Obstruction Lighting. On-site activities include fabrication, manufacturing, repair /overhaul, and engineering. Aerospace-Urbana currently has an opening for a Product Manufacturing Engineer. As the Product Manufacturing Engineer you will be responsible for the following:
Manufacturing Results:
- Provide technical support to ensure improvements or achievement of AOP in the following: On-Time Delivery, PPM, Escapes, Cycle-time Reduction, First Pass Yield, Turn Around Time, Inventory Reduction, COPQ and Safety.
Drive targeted product and process improvements:
- Support activities between Product Engineering, Operations AME, and Quality and Manufacturing Assurance team. Identify and analyze product opportunities / issues. Plan, deploy, monitor and control improvement including Supplier initiatives to support product and process improvements. Support Customer communication to facilitate and improve Product Quality and delivery as needed.
- Supports functional interaction with supplier quality assurance, transitions, material productivity, cost reductions for assigned products or groups. Support AME and NPI Engineers. Utilizes Six Sigma Plus, Design for Manufacturing (DFM) tools to drive process improvement. Ensure technical compliance with HS&E, OSHA regulations and requirements.
- Supports improvement of unit cost management including Cost Savings, Quality Measures, Product Cost, Productivity, Escapes and First Pass Yields
Product Integrity:
- Supports deployment of Built in Quality, the reduction in quality escapes, Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), and Materials Review Board (MRB) utilization for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Participates with the New Product Development (NPD) Engineers and the Integrated Product Delivery and Support (IPDS) process (Phase 1-5) for product transition into manufacturing including supporting the sign-off approval process. Supports Phase 6 programs including identification of Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) gaps for assigned products and processes.
- Support the Quality Management System (QMS) policies and procedures. Develop, document and train step by step method sheets and work instructions for assigned products to facilitate work cell incorporation. Ensure correct tooling and factory test equipment are available and in use. Support all internal and regulatory audits as required. Support the implementation of Root Cause Corrective Actions using processes such as Corrective Action Mistake-Proofing (CAMP). Participate in developing cause chains to determine real issues and cause. Suggest changes to Design Engineering regarding issues impacting product integrity.
Capital, Capacity, Momentum Management and Budget:
- Generate and provide data for analysis and identification of capital equipment needs to address gaps in capacity, including AR creation, process management and installation. Supports adherence to department Burden, Tooling and Momentum budgets.
- Execute projects (such as cost reduction, transitions, Supplier Quality issues, COPQ, etc.) and identify funding needs for assigned areas of responsibility. Support efforts to align with project and factory needs. Identify and support alternate solutions to mitigate quality and schedule risk.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering or related technical field with at least 4 years of directly related experience in Product Engineering required or in lieu of this combination a Technical Masters with at least 2 years of Product Engineering experience may be substituted
- Must be a US citizen or permanent resident due to export restrictions

- Knowledge, skill and experience with wide range of manufacturing processes
- Possesses financial acumen, understands business metrics and how to impact results
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate project status and program needs across different levels of the organization and different operating environments
- Strong people management skills including talent development, coaching and developing high performance team
- Able to deal tactfully and confidently with internal, external customers and suppliers at all organizational levels
- Demonstrates leadership skills, able to influence and provide visionary leadership
- Proficient in project management skills with the ability to close initiatives on time and within budget
- Results focused with successful record of accomplishments through skilled use of influence, persuasion,
negotiation, and problem resolution.
- Results oriented, self motivated, process driven.
- Experience in New Product Development, ensuring product is designed for manufacturability and test
- Blackbelt and Lean certification a plus. Demonstrated ability in using six sigma tools
- Program Management Institute Professional Project Manager Certification or ASQ CQE a plus.
- Excellent computer skills including EXCEL and MS Project
- Working knowledge of SAP and HOS where applicable.
