Honeywell Performance Materials & Technologies has an excellent career opportunity available for an Operations Manager located at the Resins & Chemical manufacturing facility in Chesterfield, VA. This is an excellent opportunity to show case your operations/management skills. New technology is coming to this site and this position will be responsible for new implementation of "state of the art" equipment and start-up.


Honeywell's Resins and Chemicals business offers a robust product portfolio and manufacturing capabilities to a wide variety of customers worldwide. Products include the nylon feedstock caprolactam and other chemicals, ammonium sulfate fertilizers, specialty polymers, and textile fibers.

Honeywell's Chesterfield, Va. plant is home to its
Resins business. Products include value-added nylon and specialty nylon resins, marketed under the Aegis™ brand name, for both industrial and consumer product applications. For the packaging segment, this business offers an ever-expanding range of homo-polymers and copolymers in low, medium and high viscosities, with a broad range of additive and lubricant packages. These resins can be used to provide excellent barrier properties to oxygen, flavors, and aromas, plus excellent strength, tear, and puncture resistance.



Responsibilities:



  • Lead and set direction for the Chesterfield Plant Polymers Organization; overall responsibilities include Safety and Environmental stewardship, HOS development, productivity and costs, employee staffing and development, customer satisfaction and inventory control

  • Maintain communications and collaboration with Honeywell Nylon business and functional organizations in support of business objectives

  • Develop and rollout organization and individual metrics, goals and objectives aligned to Chesterfield site short-term and strategic objectives

  • Member of Plant Leadership Team, collaborates with other Leadership Team members to set Production execution strategy; supports Plant management in setting overall site strategy

  • Champions HOS, provides support and resources required to meet improvement goals

  • Provides strategic input in developing and implementing AOP initiatives and provides input into the site Strategic Plan (STRAP), Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and capital budget

  • Provides career development and guidance for direct reports via MRR, IPMD, FLS Development salary setting process and oversees training and development for all salaried employees in group

  • Member of SIOP team, interfaces with plant service groups to meet/exceed customer expectations and business goals

  • Participates in Labor Contract Negotiations process, hear 3rd step grievances and provide grievance resolution

  • Responsible for Operations teams meeting safety and environmental goals

  • Accountable for compliance with Safety and Environmental procedures, including MOC, PPE compliance, Incident Investigation and Closure

  • Manages day to day operations to meet area objectives for HS&E, Quality, On-Time Delivery, cost per pound and overtime

  • Sets area vision and manages accordingly

  • Works with Maintenance / Engineering groups to assure maintenance and reliability needs are met

  • Works with Customer Excellence organization to maintain inventory control and on-time delivery


Basic Qualifications:



  • BS degree required in a related technical field such as Engineering

  • 7 years minimum experience in engineering and/or operations managerial experience

  • 5 years of manufacturing experience in a chemical environment required


Additional Qualifications:



  • Advanced degree and/or MBA a plus

  • Strong commitment to safety

  • Lean/ Six Sigma experience

  • Preferred managerial experience in polymer operations / resin manufacturing

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment including project planning, production scheduling, and cost control

  • Ability to build, utilize and motivate teams to resolve complex problems and improve processes

  • Strong understanding of Chesterfield manufacturing and operations

  • Positions of increasing responsibility in similar manufacturing environments

  • Demonstrated business acumen; demonstrated experience in understanding business impact of operational and project decisions on financial results

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Proven ability to influence others, both within and outside of span of control, to drive organizational change

  • Ability to set direction and follow through

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, decision making and organizational skills

  • Management experience in a union environment is a strong plus

  • Trained and experience in an HOS culture
