Honeywell Performance Materials and Technologies is a global leader in providing customers with high-performance specialty materials, including fluorine products; specialty films and additives; advanced fibers and composites; intermediates; specialty chemicals; electronic materials and chemicals; and technologies and materials for petroleum refining.



Honeywell Performance Materials and Technologies is seeking an experienced Lead Automation Engineer for their Hopewell, VA location.



The Lead Automation Engineer provides leadership and technical support for ensuring that all control applications used in the plant are fully aligned with the manufacturing strategies and the operators and human agents in manufacturing make full use of them, that is, that Automation and Process Control is exploited to the extent that the technology allows and plant production, economic results, and operational goals are optimal and remain optimal over time.



Responsibilities:




  • Control applications. Ownership and management of processes and procedures required to define, scope, apply, optimize and manage all advanced and regulatory process control applications required to ensure the sites in the Integrated Supply Chain (ISC), use and extract the most benefits from the technology. These applications may include: multivariate, sequential, advanced regulatory or regulatory controls.

  • Related Operational work systems. Ownership and management of all process systems and tools to ensure that the operators know the capabilities of the advanced control applications and can use them effectively to effect the business and manufacturing goals.

  • Must achieve all production goals and prevent unwanted consequences. This is done through training, on the job transfer of knowledge and effective use of Human Machine Interfaces. This may include arm management, operational automation dashboards.

  • Deployment of Manufacturing Execution systems, tools Etc.



Expectations:




  • The Lead Automation Engineer leads the areas of the technology in his/her scope of responsibility, through the following activities:

  • Preparation of appropriate processes for the definition, selection, implementation and management of advanced and regulatory process control applications, and to transfer knowledge to the engineers and operators that use them. That includes the identification of people involved steps and required resources.

  • Use and renewal of the appropriate processes for managing the above mentioned applications over their life-cycle.

  • Planning and execution of short term and long term activities required to effectively use advanced and regulatory process control applications in the manufacturing plants. That includes: hands on work on selection, scoping, design, configuration, performance, measurements, upgrades, troubleshooting, optimization, and life cycle management.

  • Preparation and use of standards for the matters under his/her responsibility.

  • Supply of technical support for the technologies under her/his responsibility.

  • Prioritization and scheduling of process control work with other team members, including the identification of necessary tasks and effort required.

  • Support of daily activities that involve advanced and regulatory process control applications across the Integrated Supply Chain (ISC).

  • Design, use, update, and maintenance of technical documentation required for all applications under his responsibility.

  • Participation in team building, complying with team principles, norms and expectations and keeping personal skill base up to date.

  • Production processes in all plant areas are automated to the fullest extent with the best cost-efficient technologies, and continuously achieve optimal results.

  • Advanced and regulatory control applications and related operational work systems are continuously improved and add value to the bottom line.

  • Plans for deployment and management of control applications and related operational work systems reflect appropriate input on support activities, reflect plant reality and are implemented without incidents.

  • Processes for delivering and supporting control applications and related operational work systems activities are clear, practical, used continuously, and renewed periodically.

  • Documentation used to support advanced applications and related operational work systems activities is used, kept current and maintained.


Basic Qualifications:




  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in automation and or production automation.



Additional Qualifications:




  • Automation and process control systems knowledge (DCS, networking, etc.).

  • Knowledge of Chemical Manufacturing Process.

  • Communication and interpersonal skills, planning and problem solving, and the ability to work across boundaries.

  • MS Degree in Chemical, Electrical, and or Mechanical Engineering preferred.

  • Regulatory and advanced process control techniques.

  • Abnormal Situation Management in industrial environments.

  • Human factors in automation.

  • Process control technology management.

  • Maintenance Engineering. Maintenance, administration and maintenance of manufacturing computer systems (DCS, HMI, Network devices, etc.).

  • Leadership Project Management.
