Honeywell PMT is currently seeking a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer for their Colonial Heights, VA location

Responsibilities:
- Ability to quickly respond to and appropriately assess issues in a manufacturing plant environment. Know when, where and how to resolve issues to minimize production downtime and ensure safe and environmentally responsible action is taken.
- Adopt and leverage Performance Materials and Technologies Engineering Standards. Maintain or support any site specific requirements or standards, as deemed necessary.
- Strong mechanical, piping and equipment background. Develop mechanical equipment specifications; perform vendor contacts, bid evaluations and equipment selection. Effectively communicate the results to the team.
- Dynamically assess and perform calculations for Pressure Vessel, Heat Exchanger, Tank design, etc.
- Dynamically assess and perform pipe stress analysis and vessel code analysis.
- Experience and site specific knowledge in providing support on equipment repairs as required by national country codes and regulations.
- Proficient in MS Office suite and Minitab statistical analysis program.
- Conduct or champion mechanical design review with all stake holders.
- Ensure QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control) requirements are adequately developed and met for capital installations.
- AutoCAD knowledge, 2D, 3D and CADWorx (3D Plant design software). Engage in the detailed mechanical engineering and work with designers and/or CAD operators to ensure accuracy and consistency in drawing presentation and information.
- Follow construction activities and provide start up assistance.
- Support operations and maintenance on an as needed basis. Implement new techniques and technologies, such as equipment reliability, predictive maintenance, etc. to continuously improve department operations.
- Monitor project quality, schedule and productivity for mechanical engineering work.
- Knowledgeable of document management and document control systems (Documentum and AM Meridian).
- Establish relationships with key suppliers to support plant requirements and introduce new products.
- Develop relationship with key procurement representatives.
- Ability to drive non-capital solutions and alternative analyses.
- Provide project scoping input to ensure estimate accuracy and appropriate materials and methods are utilized in an efficient design.
- Material handling automation background is an advantage.
Key Success Factors:
- Adhere to the plant health, safety, and environmental guidelines and requirements.
- Work with teams of engineers, maintenance, materials management, and operations employees to plan, assist in the implementation and/or resolution of issues that improve safety, quality, reliability, and process control.
- Effectively utilize and leverage the PMT Standards to successfully support capital projects.
- Manage the mechanical discipline cost in supporting the capital projects; ensure all goals and metrics are met or exceeded.
- Insist on value engineering.
- Encourage innovation and new technologies.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Minimum 6 years mechanical design experience in chemical or similar industry required.
Additional Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- PE is preferred.
- Experience using SAP is desired.
- Track record of successfully supporting the similar size organization and investment.
- Six Sigma Greenbelt (or Blackbelt) certification or equivalent experience implementing productivity/continuous improvement projects is desired.
