Job Description:  Position Overview: This is a full time position for motivated professionals with power systems engineering knowledge, software engineering knowledge, strong analytical and problem solving skills, and excellent communication skills. The primary function of this position will be the design, implementation, and support of power applications for the ProView product family. This position will be responsible for the complete application lifecycle for Cooper software products. Additionally, this position will be closely working with customers, marketing, and engineering teams on customer needs analysis and requirement gathering.
The responsibilities of the Software Engineer include, but are not limited to:
  • Interpret customer requirements and marketing specifications to design digital and analog logic based schemes and workbenches using Cooper’s proprietary ProView design tool. This would include working with marketing directly to define new product specifications and with manufacturing to ensure the smooth transition of new products into production.
  • Develop, document and test all materials required for each new or custom design scheme or workbench. Develop and maintain knowledge of all new ProView product development to ensure technical familiarity as it relates to new product introductions.
  • Investigate and take corrective action on customer complaints involving the functional design of assigned ProView products. Also provide technical support to Marketing, Manufacturing, and Service regarding sales inquiries, customer problems, equipment application issues and engineering analysis. This includes being able to diagnose the specific problem so that it can be sorted into the appropriate software or hardware category.
  • Understand requirements, write specifications, create design documents according to department standards, develop schemes, and execute unit tests.
  • Have responsibility for project management, planning, scheduling of scheme development.
  • Participate in system and integration testing aspects of scheme development including development and execution of test plans.
  • Provide detailed breakdown and estimates of work assignments and report progress to the Software Engineering Manager
  • Provide clearly written documentation that is appropriate for the intended audience.
  • Support Marketing Communications in developing literature for the ProView based products.
  • Contribute to the development team through timely participation in team activities such as status meetings and technical reviews (requirements, design, code, etc).
  • Stay technically current in the state-of-the-art through conferences, classes, study groups, self-study and on-the-job assignments.
  • Lead efforts to improve the existing scheme development processes used by Engineering
  • Provide technical direction for other scheme developers within Engineering through technical reviews and direct assistance.

Job Requirements : Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Education, Training, etc.):

  • BSEE required, power systems emphasis is desired
  • MSEE, preferred, power systems emphasis is desired
  • At least three years of professional power systems engineering experience required
  • A good working understanding of general power system functionality and theory is required
  • Experience operating within design and test environments while practicing standard engineering revision and control procedures
  • Knowledge of the software development process. Experience in all phases of the software development lifecycle preferred.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Able to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences at all levels in the organization
