Job Description:    ITW Filter Products-Transmission Filtration Division, located in Tinley Park, IL is seeking a Technical Shift Supervisor for our off-shift manufacturing process.   ITW Filter Products-Transmission Filtration supplies the OEM automotive market and is part of Illinois Tool Works, Inc., a Fortune 200 company headquartered in Glenview, IL.   The candidate selected for this position will perform the following responsibilities:

 

  • Verify that the operation is in compliance with the standard set by the Business Unit Manager. Contributes to the overall reduction in scrap and the elimination of waste.   Maintains high machine efficiency throughout the operation by achieving 100% good product.
  • Administer rules and see that conduct and procedures are followed according to guidelines set forth by the company, whereby a safe work environment for all employees can be achieved. Work closely with all hourly personnel to ensure that all areas of the business are successful through proper group dynamics and teamwork, including employee rotation and retention.
  • Provides leadership, training and coaching to all shift personnel, so that the goals and objectives of the manufacturing operation are achieved and profitability is maintained, including proper communication between shifts. Observe and evaluate the skills and work habits of all shift personnel so that continued growth and success can be achieved for everyone.   Responsible for planning and organizing the daily activities surrounding the manufacturing floor.
  • Work closely with both floor supervision and process engineering in order to enhance all processing capabilities with regards to both the molding machine and any secondary support equipment.   Ensure quality, safety, throughput, scrap, defect analysis, troubleshooting machine set-up, machine utilization and product efficiency are maintained.   Responsible for providing the Business Unit Facilitator with daily manufacturing numbers and defect analysis for the unit’s last 24 hour production cycle.
  • Interact within the business unit to support the profitability of the unit and maintain consistent enforcement of policies and procedures as dictated by the employee handbook and established by the business unit.
  • Serve as the team leader in support of the quality assurance position as it pertains to completion of internal and external 8-D requirements.
  • Provide direction during the shift relating to assignments of priorities should conflicts occur. Direct supporting departments to ensure customer/production schedules are met on a timely basis. During 2nd and 3rd shifts, this position shall be responsible to ensure the security and plant safety guidelines are followed.
  • Responsible for ensuring product quality through established processing parameters, work instructions and company procedures.  Responsible to ensure that the necessary corrective actions are implemented and verified whenever product quality is found to be non-conforming.
  • Maintain compliance with ISO standards.
  • Typical duties include mold set-up and adjustment on molding and assembly repairs, equipment troubleshooting and minor repairs, preventive maintenance, quality checks, material handling including filling and emptying machine hoppers, housekeeping and operator instructions.
  • Maintain equipment’s proper operation to include verifying set-up parameters of process as well as condition of machine; periodically checking machine cycle time and yields are met, quality of parts and overall consistency of process.
  • Performs other production functions such as machine operation, press assignments, operator relief, training of new and current employees in basic machine operations, shipping (including labeling and computer interface) etc. as directed.
  • Assists in monitoring material, ensure inventory of raw materials and finished goods.
  • Has authority and responsibility to stop molding process due to quality concerns.
  • Maintains set up sheets and production records for shift; completes necessary paperwork timely and accurately.
  • Ensures good housekeeping.
  • Follows all safety guidelines.
  • Recommends cost saving improvements, labor and ergonomic improvements.
  • Ensure comprehensive and complete communication with oncoming shift as it relates to production status, labor, quality, shipping, and maintenance.
  Requirements :
  • Minimum of three years of supervisory experience in the field of injection molded plastics, and two year Associates Degree in plastics related field preferred.   Otherwise, five years of supervisory experience expected.
  • Must possess good communication/interpersonal skills, good visual skills for accessing functionality of equipment, above basic mathematical skills and reasoning ability.  
  • Individual must be able to stand for full manufacturing shift, ability to reach with arms extended and/or overhead, excellent hand dexterity, ability to bend, stoop, stretch and similar activities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds frequently.   Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
