POSITION SUMMARY: The Engineering Management Trainee program is an exciting opportunity for high performing graduates to gain vast knowledge and experience by learning the business on multiple levels. Trainee positions are unique in that trainees will have the chance to take a hands on approach to learning in all areas of a manufacturing plant as well as focusing within your own discipline. Trainee positions also provide opportunities in supervision and/or in projects. This position is located in Davenport, IA for the duration of the training period of 18-24 months. Upon completion of the program, trainees are assigned to the Product Technology Center in St. Louis, MO to continue training. After the training period in St. Louis, candidates must be willing to relocate domestically and internationally. Anticipated start date for this position is January 2011 or June 2011. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Develop detailed project scopes with impact to operations taken into consideration. 2. Develop designs/solutions to problems in accordance with Engineering standards pertaining to safety, sanitation, production impact, and local and national codes. 3. Prepare specifications, develop bid scopes, evaluate bids and awards for construction. 4. Supervise contractors. 5. Supervise project start-up. 6. Learn and demonstrate plant process flows, procedures and practices. 7. Learn and demonstrate utility flows and capacities. 8. Demonstrate maintenance supervisory capability. Key Results: * Learn, understand and demonstrate plant knowledge. * Understand and demonstrate how project and study work will impact plant operations. * Development of supervisory and management skills. * Development of time management skills. Fosters a safe work environment, ensures all quality standards are met, and is responsible for the proper management of day-to-day operational and environmental issues. In the performance of any of your purchasing functions, consideration and outreach will be extended to small businesses including minority and women-owned firms. After the initial training period at the plant location, the successful candidate will join our Product Technology Center (PTC) in St. Louis, MO. The PTC has a focus on R&D activities to improve existing products and develop new products and technologies from inception through all stages of development and scale-up. This position will have a mechanical design and process development focus on projects to create unique pet foods. Nestle Purina has PTC locations throughout the world.
