Job Description

This position may be based in the West Michigan area, or near any major U.S. Airport.

The Field Service Engineer will provide customer service, aftermarket and business development support for the assigned product lines within the defined geographic territory. The field service engineer will be responsible for the start up and commissioning of new Siemens supplied equipment as well as troubleshooting, repair, recommendation and application of preventative maintenance practices and instruction on the safe use of existing Siemens installed equipment. This position may also provide diagnostic and engineering support on a diverse assortment of controls across all product lines, technical support/advisement to Siemens (internal and external) customers, technical workers and contractors. Performs important areas of standard professional level work that typically requires processing and interpreting of more-complex, less-defined issues to achieve customer acceptance of supplied equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• This position supports (external and internal) customers using sound methods within and across varied disciplines through remote and on-site assistance to solve issues that may include performing complex troubleshooting of systems and equipment operation. Includes diagnosis, problem identification of repairs required and repair and preventative maintenance work on equipment to include:
 Mechanical issues (hydraulic, gas train or refrigeration, structural, etc.)
 Electrical issues (hardware, software, electromechanical relay logic and motor control)
 Field debugging/modifying of PLC programs (Siemens, GE, Allen-Bradley, and Modicon, etc)
 PLC programming for major suppliers
 Performs complex and specialized corrective and preventative maintenance work on equipment, capable of conducting complex problem solving judging for site particulars.
• Promotes the sale of aftermarket products field services and service contracts through regular interface with both new and existing customers. Organizes and may execute arranged service contract tasks such as scheduling times, date, and delivery of service parts.
• Supports and performs onsite pilot/process testing at customer sites in support of both new projects and existing customers.
• Works with project management and direct manager to offer alternatives to persistent or irresolvable situations with customers.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• This position requires travels during workweek and consecutive week(s) at a time to domestic and international job sites, which also may involve weekends.
• A BS Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent level of combined education (Associates Degree in related discipline) and experience required
• A minimum of five years of proven experience and knowledge in electrical equipment, PLC’s and a demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude in mechanical rotating equipment required
• Process engineering experience in pressure filtration equipment is preferred in the mining, metallurgy or chemical industries
• Ability to read and understand civil, mechanical and electrical drawings, as well as having basic knowledge of typical site construction and equipment manufacturing.
• Ability to obtain a passport
• Ability to obtain a Siemens credit card (based on personal credit)
• Must have excellent computer skills and aptitude including experience with MS Office products and Excel
